2008-2009 President's Message to the Club:

As the Wrentham Lions Club celebrates its 68th anniversary, our Club is again experiencing our perennial “changing of the guard”.  Although this is a time of reflection and a time of planning for the upcoming year, it is also a time for us all to individually recommit ourselves to the mission of our distinguished service organization. The strength of our Club is not found within in any one individual but rather in each individual member’s commitment to Lionism. This commitment has already defined our Club’s legacy and will continue to mold the upcoming year.

I look forward to leading our Club and working with our membership as we continue to support the Lions Club International charities, local charities and the many worthwhile programs within our Wrentham community.

Despite the progress of recent years, we are still faced with many challenges.  Our ongoing fight against blindness and its related causes has made significant progress and has yielded many exciting advancements but there is much more to be done. In addition, the needs of our community continue to grow. With the active support and participation of each member we can be well positioned to meet these challenges and compassionately support those who need us the most.

  • Our goals for the upcoming year are consistent with past King Lions. In addition they will enhance our Club’s ability to grow, meet the needs of the Lions Club International and those of our community while ensuring that we remain financially strong.
  • Develop a local sponsor management program that recognizes past support, reduces Club touches while maximizing contributions
  • Identify and solicit large corporate sponsors that have a local presence and encourage their financial support
  • Identify, evaluate and adopt new fund-raising events
  • Encourage increased member participation
  • Continue to grow the Club
  • Have fun!

Your generosity and active participation has enabled our Club to support a myriad of worthy charities and activities.  We will continue to help the vision impaired and those who are less fortunate and need our support.  Our work is not yet complete, but rather there are still great things ahead of us to be accomplished.

In closing, the legendary coach of the ULCA Bruins basketball team, John Wooden, once said that  “you can't live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you. “

King Lion,
Tom Rieger
